When Business Meets Pleasure – Doing What You Love

During tough economic times, it can be hard to find a job you love. Many Americans are grateful to have work at all, so it’s rare to deliberately quit without a backup plan.

That being said, some business owners and employees are fortunate enough to head off to a job they love every morning. In some cases, these individuals have followed their passions and turned a hobby into a business. For others, they were lucky enough to land the job of their dreams working for a company they respect.

Business Meets Pleasure

Jordan Kurland, a small business owner and founder of Zeitgeist Artist Management, when asked what makes him look forward to going into work every day, his responses, were interesting and useful for anyone who wants to learn to love their job.

Surround yourself with good people

It’s really the people who make or break a business. Surround yourself with hard workers who you get along with. Even if your job isn’t perfect, if you’re constantly surrounded by people who brighten your day, it bodes well for your overall level of satisfaction in the office.

Remember, it’s still work

There’s a reason you get paid for work. It’s work. Don’t assume that you’ll love every second of every day. Keep your expectations realistic and you are more likely to derive real joy from what you do.

Speak up

If you’re miserable, consider bringing up your dissatisfaction with HR or a higher-up. The more you sit and simmer, the worse things can become. Sit down and figure out exactly what it is about your job that you dread, but also look for a silver lining. Then, approach someone at your company who has the authority to change your situation and explain to them why you’re unhappy. Make sure you offer some solutions to the problem too based on what you do enjoy.

It’s not impossible to look forward to going to work everyday. Even if you’re not currently at the job of your dreams, you can still appreciate the environment, respect your superiors, and make friends.
