Four Easy Ways Companies Can Give Back to the Community
Companies that give back to the local community have a better reputation than companies that put themselves first all the time. Coca-Cola and other leading companies raise money for a variety of different organizations and charities every year. While you might think that you need to make millions in profits just to support a local charity, there are other ways that you can give back. Between you and your workers, you can make a difference in the lives of thousands of people.
Work with a Charity
There is no time like the present to work with a local charity. Find one that interests and appeals to you. Ask the organization about a potential partnership that lets you act as its sponsor. You can place promotional materials and signs around your business that lets others know you give back to the organization, and the organization can use your name on its own promotional materials. You might agree to donate a portion of your profits, the proceeds from different products or give the organization free items for fundraising events.
Host a Volunteer Day
Kids aren’t the only ones who learn by example. If you really want to make a difference, encourage your employees to work with you to help others. Host a volunteer day every year, every month or just a few times a year. You can work with the same organization every time or work with a range of different charities. Look for a range of ways that you can get involved. You might participate in a marathon, help a local school wash cars to raise money, volunteer to help set up for a fundraising event or work at a silent auction.
Do On-Site Collections
If you own a retail shop or another type of business that has a number of clients coming in every day, consider doing on-site collections. You can place glass jars out and ask visitors to donate the change they have. Make sure that you clearly explain where the money goes and how the organization you work with will use that money. You can also use large bins to accept tangible products rather than money. Some charities need new toys for kids during the holidays. Other programs accept soap, shampoo, books and other items that they send to soldiers overseas.
Set Up a Grant Program
Setting up a grant program is another way to give back to the community. Grant programs help others in the same way that loans do. You might launch a program designed to help women and minorities open their own companies or a program that gives money to single parents who want to go back to school. Grant programs can also help others living in the community. For example, you might use the money to find an arts, music or after school program for a local school. Some companies also create grants that help local high school students go to college. Read through Robert Rosenkranz’s profile and the profiles of other philanthropists to see how they gave back.
Giving back to your local community can help you improve your reputation, which might increase your sales. Before deciding which option is right for you, think about how much you can afford to spend and the charities in your community.
