Google Plus for Legal Professionals

If you’re a law firm or legal practitioner that has Twitter and Facebook marketing under control, then it’s time to complete the trifecta with a Google+ account.

Gaining a Following

The first thing anyone should do is search for things such as “lawyers”, “attorneys” or even your niche area of the law, such as “immigration lawyers”. Once you’ve done this within the Google+ search bar, you will find results from lots of people who work in the same professional as you and/or share the same interests as you.

If you’re looking for immediate results, it’s probably best to just go hard and circle 500 people in your first day, rather than circling 25 or so per day. As the weeks pass, you’ll notice some of these people will follow you back.

Find Circles and Capitalize on Them

Aside from following people individually, Google+ also has a feature called ‘circles’, which is a group of like minded individuals that have been brought together by another user. If you search for things like “legal circle” or “law circle”, these circles will pop up in your results. The best thing about circles is that you can follow everyone within a circle with one click of the mouse, something which saves you a lot of time compared to going through and finding lots of people to follow. Something to consider, when circles usually have hundreds of Google+ users within them.

You can even get yourself added to a circle, the people that create circles often have directions such as “to be added to this circle just add everyone in the circle, share this circle, +1 and comment below” or something to that effect. This will usually take you a few seconds, and once added, other people looking to add legal circles to their lists of followers will also be adding you.

Interact with People

It’s not enough to simply have a large amount of followers, you must promote engagement. The best way to grab people attention is to comment on their posts. For example, if a law firm in Chicago is posting a question such as “Can clients have an H1B visa and an F1 visa at the same time?”, you can jump into the conversation and offer your expertise in immigration law.

If you see something that is relevant to your firm, don’t be afraid to press the share button. If people comment on one of your posts, use the +1 button liberally, rewarding people for taking the time to engage with your profile.
